The book’s and app’s central theme is
Haw’s insight:
“When you change your
beliefs and thinking …
you change what you
do.”
The purpose of this App is
to improve your ability to “think-through” changing situations on your job
and in your personal life. It uses a facilitated thinking approach that is
based on three thinking practices that exceptional thinkers commonly use (even
if they aren’t aware of it). Use the
following thinking practices to jump-start your mastery of change.
1: Ask “change-adept” thinking
questions. |
Asking the
right “change” questions gives your mind the best chance to find the right
ideas, answers, solutions and actions to take |
2: Apply cognitive tools (thinklets)
to your thinking task. |
Like any
manual tool that improves labor productivity, cognitive tools improve thinking
productivity. Using mental
tools follows the same principle as using manual tools … find the tool appropriate
for the thinking task at hand. |
3: Follow a change-adept thinking process. |
Thinking processes are the mental structures
or frameworks in which thought occurs.
Skipping or missing a thinking task can lead to ineffective thinking. |
The reason this
is such a powerful truth is … when we are confronted
with a thinking task our mind instinctively draws upon the skills that are most
familiar to guide us. This is called scripted thinking or in cheese terms, old
cheese thinking.
The problem is … using the
same old ways of thinking prevents us from seeing
anything other than what is revealed by our old routine thinking ways. So, when
our work changes or life changes, we will not get the correct results by
applying old cheese thinking to the
new situation.
Using this app facilitates
your “change-adept” thinking as if an expert change agent, coach or even Dr.
Johnson was working directly with you.
