Work Observation & Change Analysis

Why Use It

Sometimes we are so close to our work we can’t see the proverbial “forest through the tree.” Begin by observing and analyzing your current work activities and transforming them into discreet and identifiable opportunities for “changes” and improvements.

How to Use it

The following log tracks how much time is really spent on tasks/activities and the types of interruptions you are experiencing.   Use one time log for each day. It is recommended that you keep track of your time for 1 or 2 weeks. Try not to go longer than 1 hour without filling in the log. Keep the time log with you throughout the day.  Also, note any interruptions and identify if they were: A=crucial, B=important, C=little value, and D=no value (wasted my time).
